Student Transportation - Sample Projects
New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE)
The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) provides transportation services for over 140,000 general education and special education students to over 1900 schools in the New York metro area. Transportation services are provided by a fleet of over 8,800 school buses operated by over 50 contractors. To improve security, service quality control, and operational efficiency, NYCDOE’s
Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) created a project to utilize Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and related “
telematics”.
Macro assisted the OPT in the identification and evaluation of the most appropriate and cost effective technologies to meet OPT’s operational needs. Subsequently, Macro developed the conceptual design and procurement specifications and documents for the telematics systems, qualified the most suitable system suppliers, and evaluated proposals. Subsequently, Macro will be helping with contract negotiations and then overseeing the installation and testing of a “pilot” implementation in the New York environment before green-lighting the fleet-wide deployment.
