Dependable and secure wireless communications has served as the lifeline for law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and EMS personnel for over three generations, now. No other single device has proven in modern times to have helped save more lives, rescue more people, protect more property, and apprehend more suspected law breakers than today’s land mobile voice radio system, or “LMR”.

More recently, LMR has been successfully augmented by the introduction of more increasingly by equally robust and secure, mobile data networks. Proven technologies introduced into these wireless data networks deliver critical information to public safety at near-broadband, real-time speeds. Proliferated throughout the field in police vehicles, firefighting equipment, ambulances, and even hip-side on PDAs, wireless mobile data networks augment LMR as a key tool for public safety for interoperable communications within and across federal, state, county, and municipal jurisdictions.

over our firm’s 40 years of independent consulting service, we’ve known that the term “interoperability” is not simply a passing fashion since the terror attacks of 9/11, but rather for decades has been and will forever be a required feature of all public safety radio systems. Such systems come with an eye-popping price tag: more than $4,000 per mobile radio; $2,500 or more for a portable radio; entire APCO Project 25-compliant systems for the even the smallest cities demanding precious millions from tax-fed government coffers. We understand, therefore, that the past’s “stove-pipe” mentality of each county or local government, and even between their different governmental functions, owning their own voice radio and mobile data systems that caused barriers to interoperability are too cost prohibitive today. Our practice area is built on a staff that seeks to find shared-interest “partnerships” between different levels, missions, and jurisdictions in the public safety continuum, such that a community can afford these new, powerful, more feature-rich radio systems at a fraction of its cost.
